KODAK’s camera intended smartphone announced

Kodak launched its photography-centric smartphone on 18th July, Monday. It’s named EKTRA and is priced at Rs. 19,990 in India. Internationally EKTRA is priced for $400, i.e., approx Rs. 25,816. This smartphone by Kodak is aimed for the users who already use DSLRs but want a compact device with a quality camera. It also includes editing software from Snapseed that offers exceptional tools for editing the pictures. And, you won’t need to download any additional apps for that. The pictures ultimately turn out to be great and similar to many popular desktop image editors. The EKTRA is basically designed by Bullitt Group. The smartphone is available exclusively via Flipkart.
Now, let’s have an overview of the specifications it boasts within the compact design.

The EKTRA by Kodak is all about camera. The rear camera offers a 21MP shooter with Dual LED flash and a 13MP front facing camera with Phase Detection Auto-focus PDAF and f/2.2 aperture. The camera app is controlled by the SLR-style scene selection dial and the adjustments are made in real time. The range of camera mode setting includes Portrait, Landscape, Panorama, HDR, Night mode, Macro, Bokeh, Sport and a Smart Auto mode too, to adjust the amount of exposure, focus, speed and ISO. The results turn out to be great.

Design & Build

The device is compact and sleek even though it has a huge 21MP camera lens at the rear. The EKTRA feels solid in hands which definitely makes it a well built device. It features a 5 inch Full HD (1080 x 1920 pixel) screen resolution and 441 PPI. Also, it comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

The EKTRA runs on the Android v6.0 Marshmallow. It is clocked at 2.3 GHz Deca-core, Cortex A53 processor with MediaTek MT6797 and Mali-T880 MP4 GPU. Also, it offers 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128 GB via microSD card. Thus, it provides decent performance. According to its specifications the device runs smoothly with almost no lag as such. But it’s not at par with the other smartphones that are available in the same price tag with better specifications other than camera.

Connectivity & Battery

The device powers a 3000 mAh non-removable Li-ion Battery. It does not support fast charging. As far as connectivity is concerned, it supports 3G, 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth v4.1. It also has a Type-C port for charging and data syncing.
