Meet the New Moto: Moto Z2 Play Review
Motorola is one of those companies which has maintained it’s standard in the smartphone market all over the world. It is one of those renowned brands which dominated the smartphone market alongside Nokia. Soon, Google bought Motorola and introduced new Moto X series of smartphones which got killed by Lenovo when they bought over the company in 2014. Later on, last year Lenovo showcased their idea on what should a Motorola flagship Android smartphone should bring with the new and modular Z series of smartphones. And so now, the sequel to the Moto Z Play has been launched in the form of Moto Z2 Play. Let’s see if it lives upto the expectations or not.
Design & Build
Moto Z2 Play smartphone offers better design and advanced hardware components at the price tag of Rs. 27,999. The company is all set to rock with it’s different Mods. These Mods include a 3490 mAH Turbo Power pack, a brand new GamePad, second-gen JBL speakers, new style shells which provide wireless charging too, also you can go with the Insta-share Projector mod and the Hasselblad True Zoom camera. Only the Moto Z series of smartphones are compatible for these Moto Mods.
The overall smartphone looks sleek, redefined and classy unlike the predecessor, Moto Z Play. It is 5.99mm thin and weighs 145g only. The height, width and overall shape of the device remains constant. It has a 5.5 inch Super AMOLED display at 401 PPI with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top for the scratch protection. The display seems to be bright and vivid. The viewing angles are also great with sharp and crisp display. The display has a nono-coating and is water-repellent.
This device offers a 12MP f/1.7 PDAF shooter at the rear and a 5MP front shooter. It comes with dual auto-focus, phase detection autofocus, lazer autofocus and a dual-tone LED flash. The overall camera performance is brilliant. This camera cleraly captures beautiful shots and the shutter speed seems to be good too. You can also broadcast live on YouTube from the camera app itself. The selfies also come out to be great from 5MP shooter, also in low light. You also get a Pro Mode is available. The device can record videos in full HD at 30fps or 60fps, and also in 4K at 30fps.
The Moto Z2 Play runs on the stock Android 7.1.1 powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 SoC which gives a boost to it’s performance. It is clocked at 2.2 GHz Octa-Core Processor with Adreno 506 . There appears to be lo lag or trouble while browsing the User Interface, Internet and multi-tasking. It got an Antutu score of 69,520 which is slightly higher than the Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro. It has two variants, one with 3 GB of RAM & 32 GB of internal storage and the second with 4 GB of RAM & 64 GB of internal storage. The memory is expandable upto 2 TB via microSD card. The overall performance of the device seems to be great with no trouble at all.
It’s a dual sim 4G, VoLTE enabled device with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC. There is mo lag or trouble during calls. Even the 4G VoLTE runs great on this device. The call quality is execellent and the audio is good and audible enough.
The device is composed of 3000 mAH Li-Po battery which is a smaller battery. But still, the battery life is commendable. You can increase the power by using the TurboPower Pack, the battery Mod easily. With the small size of the battery, the device is much slimmer and more comfortable to use as a result.
Overall, the Moto Z2 Play might not be as powerful as the OnePlus 5 but it definitely is a brilliant device for the people who like Moto smartphones. The sleek and classy design, good performance, excellent battery life, pretty good camera and an optimised software with a crisp & sharp display. The Moto Mods seems to be an additional advantage to the smartphone’s capabilities but those are on the pretty expensive side which some of you might feel as a con of this device. Thus, we can say that Motorola is back in business.
